“How did you get into product management?”
It was a natural step in my professional path. I have experience in operations and have worked with Product Managers from different areas in the company. During that work, I developed a curiosity about the lifecycle of the company’s products and a desire to be involved in their creation. I had a chance to choose between a people lead in another area and product management, but I think I’ve made the best decision where I am now.
“How do you start your mornings at work?”
My mornings begin with emails and messages and a quick look at my calendar so I can be prepared for the day. I try never to miss daily standups with the teams.
“What do you know about product management now that you wish you’d known when you first started?”
Looking back, first, you need to give yourself the patience to see how your piece of the product is developed, made, and grown. Second, you must understand that no one can develop the perfect product the first time but must continue improving until one succeeds.
“What did your biggest product failure teach you?”
Building something new or improving something that already exists is hard work and requires a lot of collaboration and energy. I often receive pushbacks from some and push-ups from others – stakeholders, tech teams, or even other product managers, but that’s OK because it makes me search for a better approach, and I end up with better solutions.
“What’s the #1 thing that has helped you shorten your product management learning curve?”
Learning from experience. When I decided to continue my professional path with Product Management, I took courses and read PM books, but that was not enough. So, I decided to stop waiting and started my product journey with an internship. Learning during actual work and taking the best practices from my PM mentors and colleagues gave me the courage and self-esteem to jump into one of the biggest projects in the company right now, in the most challenging B2B2C area.
“How do you stay updated on the best practices in product management?”
Like most of the other Product Managers, I search for product content online. I’m following Product School:
and Lenny’s Podcast:
I always have something bookmarked for reading that I found by chance on LinkedIn or in newsletters like this one. Lastly, I discuss their experiences, struggles, and wins with other product managers.
